Just My Type — controlled Android beta (Twin Cities, Minnesota)
- Document version: v1
- Effective date: 2026-09-15
- Operator contact: [email protected]
This notice describes how the Just My Type Android application and the justmytype.love website (together, the "Service") collect, use, share, retain, and protect your information during the controlled Twin Cities beta. It applies to the beta that is actually offered; planned features are not described until they ship.
1. What we collect
- Account and identity data. Your Google sign-in identifier, the private first name you provide, and your date of birth. Your private name and date of birth are never shown on your public profile.
- Public profile data. Your alias, optional profile photo, and the city-level display name you choose. This is what matched members can see.
- Location data. The map location you choose for matching, stored as coordinates and a city key. We do not collect background or continuous location. Android location permission is requested only when you invoke the map's crosshair control, and you can always choose a pin manually instead.
- Heart Stoppers answers. Your eligibility answers: date of birth, gender categories, genders you want to date, age range, relationship structure, dating intentions, and maximum distance. These are private matching data and are never shown to other members.
- Heartbeat and Matchprint data. Your onboarding question responses and the private personality profile (Matchprint) derived from them, including compatibility scores and explanations. This data is used for matching and is never published on your profile.
- Messages. Messages you exchange with matched members, stored so both participants can read the conversation.
- Device and fraud-prevention data. An app set identifier used only to operate the device registry for ban-evasion prevention. It is never used for advertising and is never shown to other members.
- Support and appeal data. Information you submit when you contact support or appeal an account restriction, including an age-correction appeal.
- Legal acceptance records. The document versions you accepted, when you accepted them, and whether acceptance came from the app or the website.
2. How we use information
We use the information above to operate the Service: authenticating you, enforcing eligibility, computing compatibility, making introductions, delivering messages, preventing fraud and ban evasion, responding to support and appeal requests, and meeting legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not sell or share sensitive dating, Heart Stoppers, Heartbeat, or Matchprint data with advertisers.
3. Sensitive data and consent
Some information you provide — such as dating intentions, relationship structure, and personality responses — can be sensitive. We ask for a separate, purpose-specific consent immediately before the Heart Stoppers questions. Accepting these Privacy Practices acknowledges this notice; it is not a substitute for that specific consent, and each consent is recorded independently. If a future feature requires a new sensitive use (for example, an AI provider processing your data), we will present a separate just-in-time disclosure and consent before enabling it.
4. How matching data is protected
Your public profile, your private identity, and your private Matchprint/matching data are stored and handled separately. Other members can see only your public profile and, for matched members, the trust details you explicitly choose to share. Compatibility explanations shown to you about a match never reveal the other member's raw answers.
5. Service providers
We use a small number of providers to operate the Service: Google for sign-in and Android Maps, our hosting provider for the servers and database, and S3-compatible object storage for profile photos. These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us. The beta does not send your data to an AI provider; this notice will be updated before any such feature is enabled.
6. Analytics and advertising
The beta does not use third-party advertising, and device identifiers are never used for advertising. If product analytics are enabled, they are limited to aggregate service-improvement metrics and never include your Heart Stoppers answers, Heartbeat responses, or message content.
7. Retention and deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can request account and data deletion at any time from the account screen in the app or at justmytype.love/account-deletion. Age-restricted accounts can use the same deletion-request path. Legal acceptance records and minimal appeal and moderation audit records may be retained as needed to demonstrate compliance and operate the appeal process, and are not used for matching or advertising.
8. Your rights and requests
Depending on your state of residence, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to appeal a decision about a request. Submit requests to [email protected] or through the account screen. Minnesota residents: we are evaluating the applicability of the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act (Minn. Stat. ch. 325M) to the operating entity with counsel and will honor applicable rights.
9. Security
We use encrypted transport, server-side session tokens stored only as hashes, private-by-default profile data, and access controls for staff tooling. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we collect.
10. Children
The Service is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If a self-reported date of birth shows an account holder is under 18, the account is restricted to the appeal service until an age correction is reviewed or the account is deleted.
11. Changes to this notice
When we make a material change, we will publish a new version with a new effective date and may require you to acknowledge the new version before continuing to use member features. Each published version remains available at its versioned URL.
